The Programmable Focusing Optics PFO is a scanner optics for welding and drilling.

Using two mirrors, the laser beam can be placed at any predefined position within the process field or space, or it can be guided over any contour. Spot welds and seams can thus be welded without moving the workpiece or the focusing optics.
The PFO is available for both pulsed and cw solid-state lasers. Different focal lengths ranging from 90 to 1200 mm enable different processing field sizes.
Using a special control unit, processing can be done “on the fly” in order to minimize positioning times due to overlap of robot and scanner movement.
The programmable focusing optics PFO 1D combines the robustness of industrially proven TRUMPF fixed optics with the scanner functionality of the latest generation of programmable focusing optics, PFO. The wobble movement of the laser spot is individually adjustable and results in optimal weld seam quality with both heat conduction welding and deep penetration welding.
Depending on the focal length, working areas from 56 x 56 to 406 x 630 mm² can be achieved. The Z-stroke of the PFO 3D of up to ± 220 mm results in a threedimensional working space.
